Concept

Nagiso is located at the southern end of the Kiso Valley in the southwestern part of Nagano Prefecture, and approximately 94% of its area is covered with forests. It is an area with numerous historical and cultural assets, including Tsumago Juku, a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and Momosuke Bridge, the largest wooden bridge in Japan and an Important Cultural Property. In rebuilding the Nagiso Branch Office, we aimed to make it a "government building that will be familiar to local residents," and in order to promote the use of wood and convey the benefits of woody spaces to visitors, we planned to make extensive use of wood and used domestic timber such as Kiso hinoki (Japanese cypress). In the Nagiso area, there seems to be a difference between natural and planted forests. In addition, in order to promote the use of biomass resources, environmental friendliness, and economic efficiency, the air conditioning system is a small pellet boiler + electric air-cooled heat pump package system.
