Concept

Hokuryo Junior High School is located in the area where a national important cultural asset, Senpukan, is located on the east side of the site, a high-rise apartment complex (OAP) on the north side, and relatively low-rise private houses on the west side. This building is the second phase of a three-phase reconstruction project, and includes the main functions of regular classrooms, special classrooms, and staff offices. The design and functionality of this building is intended to be continuous with that of the gymnasium with rooftop pool, which was designed in the first phase. The large ichou tree that has watched over the children for generations from the corner of the schoolyard and has been remembered by the graduates as a landmark for their reunion 10 years later had to be cut down because of the location of the planned building and the difficulty of transplanting the tree due to the hollowed-out inside. However, it has been reborn as a bench and has carved a new history as a place for students to interact with each other.
