Concept

The site is placed approximately in the center of Wakasawan National Park, halfway up a mountain which commands a beautiful view of the Tagarasu Peninsula with a sawtooth coastline below. For the exterior, the base built with rusty granite makes the building look compact. Roofing tiles in Spanish-like composition and sand coat exterior help the building to be harmonized with surround landscape simbolized by surfaces of mountains, trunks and leaves of pine trees. Thick-section laminated timber with straight lines as a basic tone is used as a structural member for the interior; along with this, wooden louvers of skylights for natural lighting, wooden grilles for air conditioners and wooden hand rails add suitable rhythmical tone to the activity space. In order to keep the seaside scene in people's memories, openings are planed under consideration of scenery elements and an observation platform is designed with advantages of the view.
