Concept

The attraction of a library exists in the encounter with a book, which touches your heart, and in the chances for further discovery by understanding various related materials. By paying much attention to bookshelves' layout and relations among each zoning, we made an easy and open access space as the "woods of books" enhancing the potential of learning. As a proposal for open shelves encouraging people to take and open the books and materials, we used beautiful bindings as the way of presentation to attract the attention of visitors and appeal to them. We manufactured low type bookshelves with five shelves, which can display the cover and scroop of books in one shelf. We also deployed reading spaces around the shelves, aiming at the multi-purpose amenity, that is the space of social education, which accepts children even if they are a little wild and naughty.Regarding the lighting of the open-access space, natural daylighting is diffused by honeycomb louvers and the light of 500 lux or more is secured only with natural light. In addition to it, light tubes are adopted to ensure uniform lighting with little shadow and three light tubes are separately used according to conditions of natural day light to obtain the required illuminance. For air conditioning the double roof allows us to reduce radiant heat of the sun and heat storage of concrete in summer. In winter, we can use the heated air (outdoor temperature + 20℃ max. according to past records) for air conditioning, realizing the energy conserved heat environment with little environmental load
