Concept

Yamada Ike Park in Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture, is a park centered around Yamada Pond, one of the eight scenic spots in Hirakata, and is themed around contact with abundant nature. In designing the facility, traditional Japanese wooden construction techniques such as "aigaki," "nuki," "watari ago," and "menkoshi" were analyzed from a modern engineering perspective to ensure safety. Wooden parts are not exposed to rain, and metal parts are minimized and treated with wood stoppers to prevent damage from wind and rain. The combination of logs, lattice beams, and other small-diameter members and the role of materials were carefully considered, and the advantages of wood were utilized in the proper places in an effort to conserve resources. We aimed to create an architecture that would resonate with the sensibilities of park users, especially children, through the appeal of real wood and the wisdom and skill of Japanese artisans.
